Ask Me Anything!

04.01.2021

I am surprised.

I didn't think I'd get questions. Or maybe like... one. Or maybe just a bunch of really pervy ones, because people be jerks. But I got THREE!

Q. How tall are you?

A. I am 5'8" (or 173cm, whichever you prefer to use). The tallest female in my family, actually. There was a point in time that I wished I was shorter, but now that I'm older (and more mature), I've decided that wish was pretty stupid because imagine how much time I'd have to waste getting people to help me reach the things on the high shelves. Also, being tall, I think, adds to my intimidation factor. Though, I think I'd be fairly intimidating even if I was short.

Q. What is your favourite book?

A. I had to really think on this one. I've done a lot of reading over the past 4 years, and that's made it really hard to pick just one book as my favourite. There have been a number, especially recently, that I've really enjoyed and will definitely be reading again.

Over the years, I can say one book I've always come back to and re-read has been Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. I first read it back in 2005 and was smitten with it then, and I've re-read it probably 5 times by now.

I think it would be easier for me to choose a favourite author, or at least a handful of them. Stephen King (a common favourite), Mark Edwards (a lesser-known psychological thriller author), and Robert Kirkman (he's known for his comic books, but I poured through his novels about the Governor) would probably top that list currently.

Honourable mentions for favourite book go out to:

Q. How do you like your coffee? And if you don't like coffee: HOW COME YOU DON'T LIKE COFFEE!?!

A. In Canada, we call the coffee that I like a "double-double" - that is, two creams, two sugars. However, recently, in an attempt to step away from the sugar and cream, I've been cutting them in half, which is what's called a "regular" (one cream, one sugar).

I first started to drink coffee when I was a teen - but I would load it with sugar and cream, so it was basically just milk and sugar with a hint of coffee. One time I was given black coffee by accident and it made me sick to my stomach so I gave it up and began to call coffee "bitter hatred."

In 2015, I made a bet with my best male friend that his wife wouldn't let him keep his strange goatee for longer than a week. If I won, he'd have to go a day without coffee, and if he won, I'd have to have one large coffee. He won. I drank the coffee, and still hated it, but that bet led to another bet.

In 2016, I started making goofy sports bets with one of my warehouse managers, and at some point I'd mentioned the bet that I'd made with my friend. Well, that inspired him to come up with his own terms for a bet. If he won, I'd have to drink a pot of coffee every day for a week. If I won, he'd have to go to work every day without his hat (he was balding and not proud of it). Needless to say, he won.

So, I drank a pot of coffee a day for a week. And I fell in love with coffee. I don't still drink a pot a day, but I do spend a lot of time drinking it - and often if I'm not drinking it, I'm thinking about drinking it.

So there you have it. My AMA, as promised. I was going to do one for my work blog, but I only got one question, and it wasn't enough to make me feel like writing a whole post.
